“When I was 22 it was the 90s and it was hard for someone like me who didn’t make Indian clothes! », Says Ashish Soni
Where have you been in terms of your career?
I had just launched my label. We were just a handful and we had to create it from scratch. Unlike young designers today, we didn’t have ready-made platforms. Design, public relations, marketing – we’ve managed them all!
And your bank balance was?
Non-existent. The 90s were tough for someone like me who didn’t make Indian clothes.
Romance in life?
I was in a serious relationship.
What was your concentration in life?
To carve out a place for myself in the fashion world and be recognized and appreciated for what I do.
What about your state of mind?
I was extremely ambitious and hungry for success. Maybe that’s why I am where I am in life today.
Have you lived with your family?
I was living with my mother and my sister because my father was still abroad.
What was your fashion sense?
He was completely ruled by trends and what was in vogue. When I look back now I think to myself “why ???” !
A fitness regime?
I was super fit because I was obsessed with training and football.
Your most precious possession at the time?
A Breitling watch! Something I wanted for many years.
And your biggest dream at the time?
To one day arrive on the international scene. Fortunately, God gave me this opportunity.
Biggest Life Lesson You’ve Learned?
One thing I would advise young people to do differently is to avoid distractions. Serious relationships, random parties, and overspending should be put on the back burner.
If you could change one thing, what would it be?
No matter how clear I was, I was naive and easily distracted. It took me 10 years to figure out my groove. I would have liked to be a little more aggressive. Being focused is one thing and staying focused is another!
