Schumacher & Statista unveil America’s second interior design monitor for 2021

NEW YORK, 12 October 2021 / PRNewswire / – Schumacher and Statistical conducted their second joint survey of interior design professionals and interior design enthusiasts. The resulting “American Interior Design Monitor“serves as a barometer of mood and trends in the interior design sector by United States. The data collected provides a comprehensive overview of the market situation while identifying current developments and trends.

The interior design industry is doing well, designers positively assess the economic situation of their business: According to our survey, which was conducted during the global coronavirus pandemic, 75% of interior design companies rate their economic situation as “somewhat positive” or “very positive”. Compared to last year, this is a notable increase of 15%. Only 6% currently consider their situation to be “somewhat negative” or “very negative”. All regions of the United States are doing well overall, with the Northeast and South rating their economic situation slightly above average.
Recommendations and “word of mouth” are the number one generator of clients for interior designers: 60% of interior design companies get noticed by clients first through referrals, 53% cite networking as an important channel for finding clients. The most frequent multipliers are current or former clients (89%), followed by contractors (50%) and real estate agents (38%).

Schumacher and Statista conducted their interior design investigation between July 14, 2021 – August 3, 2021. The online survey was emailed to interior design professionals who have been working in interior design for at least 2 years and to interior design enthusiasts.
