Santa Fe cemetery reportedly ransacked after series of videos attracted attention

SANTA FE, NM (KRQE) – People accuse a marble store of using a nearby historic cemetery as a dumping ground, it was first brought to light by a YouTuber. However, the owner of the business tells a much different story about who is rampaging the cemetery near downtown Santa Fe.
Headstones from the 1800s can be found at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cerillos Road in Santa Fe, including the grave of outlaw Sam Ketchum. It was Ketchum’s grave that attracted YouTuber Rhetty for History, who visits the graves of famous people across the country. He was stunned to see the neglect and highlighted a large pile of marble debris in the corner of the cemetery.
In his video, he shows the marble company, Captain Marble, right next to the lot, accusing them of dumping their trash on the historic property. He asked viewers to call city officials and complain about the mess. Christine Robertson, executive director of the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation, said she received a complaint Tuesday morning.
Gerinda Baca, owner of Captain Marble, says they didn’t leave the heap of marble there, but the owners of the property, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, did. Baca says that a decade ago the Odd Fellos requested marble debris to create a walkway through the cemetery. A current member of the Odd Fellows confirmed that they placed the marble in the pile after abandoning their plans for the path.
KRQE News 13 asked Odd Fellows if they plan to move the marble, they say no at the moment. They say they don’t have the funds to maintain the cemetery.
