It has been almost 25 years since Princess Diana’s tragic death, and yet her myth, rather than fading over time, has only grown stronger. Her story was recently featured on Netflix with Season 4 of The crown, as the series reached the 1980s and her disastrous marriage to Charles. But Peter Morgan’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning TV series has no lock on the late Princess of Wales. There is a new biopic, Spencer, also on the way. To add to the excitement: Diana will be played by none other than Kristen Stewart in Spencer.
Part of the problem with any biopic is nailing the look of the person in question. Many movies about famous people went off the rails because the actors didn’t look good and fans just couldn’t live without them. (When the actor Is nail it, like Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, it can turn their performance into an awards season.) So far, several actors have faced Diana over the years, with difficult results. The crown Season 4 was a success thanks to Emma Corrin’s portrayal of Diana. The actor nailed not only the look of the late princess, but also her attitude. (And fans should note that Elizabeth Debicki, who is expected to reprise the role in The crown Season 5 has already proven that it too can be successful.)
Fans were much less confident than Stewart, who has a very iconic look associated with her, coming from her. dusk years, could make a reasonable facsimile of Diana. (Her acting skills for the role were never questioned, just her appearance.) But with every photo and poster released to promote the new film, more and more fans realized it could be a biopic for ages.
Spencer Attach
The film’s first poster was released at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on August 25, 2021, along with the first trailer. While the latter wasn’t made public right away, the former was, and it’s mind-boggling.
Spencer To throw
When Spencer was first announced, Kristen Stewart as Diana, Princess of Wales was a big part of the sales pitch, with director Pablo Larraín best known for Jackie, the biopic of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, titled by Natalie Portman.
Since then, the rest of the cast has grown, starting with Jack Farthing (Poldark) as Charles, Prince of Wales. The film will also co-star with Timothy Spall, Sally Hawkins, Sean Harris, Olga Hellsing and Thomas Douglas. Interestingly, the movie also lists Amy Manson (Nevers) like Anne Boleyn, suggesting it might have a ghost story angle as well.
Spencer Ground
The story of Princess Diana could cover quite a bit of ground. There are his beginnings, when his mother tried to divorce her father and take the children, only to lose custody and the right to see them one day. There are her years as an innocent teenager plucked by the Palace to be the virginal bride of the future King of England. And, most dramatically, there is the summer of 1997 and his death in a car accident in Paris.
Corn Spencer will focus on perhaps the juiciest and most crucial moment in Diana’s life, the 1995 Christmas vacation with the Royal Family at Sandringham, when Diana decided to end her marriage to Prince Charles.
Spencer Release date
Spencer will debut in theaters on Friday, November 5, 2021.
