Oakridge to reflect on Class of 2020 with #BeTheLight gesture on Friday
Add Oakridge Public Schools to the list of schools in the Muskegon area and nationwide that have joined the #BeTheLight movement.
The lights above Oakridge’s football stadium, Russell A. Erickson Stadium, will turn on at 8:20 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and shine for 20 minutes to reflect on the positive memories created by the 2020 Class. , 8:20 p.m. it’s 2020.
When the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year was canceled due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, seniors lost some key moments. The #BeTheLight movement has started to honor 2020 seniors.
Other schools in the Muskegon area have joined in the act. Muskegon launched it a few weeks ago, followed last Friday by Fruitport, Mason County Central, Montague and North Muskegon, to name a few others. On Monday, Grand Haven joined the movement. This Friday, Mona Shores and Muskegon Catholic Central are embarking.
On the Oakridge Public Schools Facebook page, a message was posted about Friday’s #BeTheLight ceremony. He said, “This is simply to honor our future graduates and is in addition to any upcoming graduation ceremony or official sending.”
The Oakridge #BeTheLight ceremony will be broadcast on Facebook Live by the school. The district also asks that if you stop at the stadium or at the school, you must stay in your vehicle.
A few weeks ago, Oakridge released a video narrated by Superintendent Tom Livezey. The video expressed how much we missed the students and “Be strong! Finish strong! In the face of the pandemic. The video can be viewed here:
