Mytheresa has launched a new home section that is an interiors paradise
Tiffany Hsu, fashion buying director at Mytheresa, prefers minimalist interiors. She won’t put just any line drawing or marble coffee table in her house. The best spaces, she says BAZAAR.com, are the sum of how they are furnished. “Just because it’s minimal doesn’t mean it can get into my personal space,” she says. “With the house, it’s about the environment.”
Hsu takes his discerning eye for decorating to a bigger, buyable stage, and one that can suit more than just minimalists. Mytheresa presented today “Life,” a luxury destination for everything except clothing (mainly decoration and furnishings) on the e-tailer’s website.
Select pieces from the 60 Brand launch reflect the natural, airy aesthetic that Hsu has in her own home. Others, like homewares from Dolce & Gabbana or Versace, lean into the opulent maximalism that’s simultaneously fashionable right now. Hsu tells us that the section’s duality reflects his approach to curating the fashion side of Mytheresa – hot pieces and “talking points” sit alongside recognizable luxury names, creating a haven with something for every mood of decor.
The launch montage emphasizes decorative flourishes, with products ranging from colorful Missoni cushions to Assouline books to a well-appointed coffee table. Ceramics and tableware are not lacking either: here 101 Copenhagen vases, there La Double J plates. But there is more to the “Life” montage than staying at home. A travel section includes Gucci steamer luggage and Bottega Veneta clutches; for animal relatives, there are a number of Moncler dog jackets and leashes to browse.
When in-the-moment interiors appear in the range, says Hsu, they always have a timeless quality. “A lot of trending items are also old classics – some things are from the mid-century, some are from the 70s. Say the zig-zag chair: it’s a very classic item, but it could also be translated into a modern space with a different aesthetic.”
She continues, “It looks like fashion. You have certain handbags that have always been around. [for decades] but at the same time, it is very trendy. Like the Kelly and the Birkin have a moment, but they’re also classic.”
Looking ahead, Hsu envisions Mytheresa Life as a space for everything from custom-made furniture to vintage pieces. It will be an overall inner experience. Or, as Hsu puts it more succinctly, “We don’t just think about decorative tabletops.”
