Brno, April 19 (BD) – In early 2021, viewers in the Czech Republic were primarily looking for Czech comedies and comedy shows, according to data from Kuki Internet TV, a Czech online TV portal. However, the hearings in January, February and March were rocked by new Czech firsts, notably Božena, a historical series on the life of Božena NÄmcová, one of the most beloved Czech writers, launched on Czech television in the early days of 2021.
âAccording to audience statistics, in the first months of 2021, the Czechs wanted above all to watch television for fun or relaxation. The only exceptions were new national television productions such as KukaÄky and Božena, which grabbed the attention of viewers immediately after their premiere, âsaid Eva MlynáÅová, Digital Content Specialist at Kuki TV.
Since last fall, The simpsons was in first place in Kuki’s ratings. At the end of last year, the romantic comedy SluneÄná (“Sunny”) appeared to be in second place and, due to a break in broadcasting, The simpsons was overtaken by The Big Bang Theory, an American sitcom.
Three Czech TV shows vied for the position of the third most watched program. First, Ulice (“The Street”) worked best, but was replaced by the reality show VýmÄna manželek (âWife Swapâ), with the start of the new season. The third hit show was KukaÄky, produced by the public station, which remained in the top three until the finale of the first season, which aired on Friday, April 2.
Audience statistics have shown that the Czechs are changing television programs more and more often. While in 2019, they spent an average of 18 minutes watching a show, the following year it was 20 seconds less. In 2021, Kuki expects this trend to continue.
âViewers are increasingly discovering the smart innovations of modern television, including rewind ads or notifications about the start of a favorite show,â said Lukáš Pazourek, Kuki Marketing Director.
