French F2 Sprint Race 2022 report and highlights: Lawson wins the Paul Ricard Sprint Race in style
Liam Lawson won his second victory of the Formula 2 season with flying colors around the Circuit Paul Ricard. The Carlin driver fired bold shots at Marcus Armstrong and Jehan Daruvala for the win.
After dropping to fourth at turn one, Lawson fought back quickly and decisively, taking third from Felipe Drugovich immediately on the opening lap before beating Armstrong for second. A very late dive to the outside of the Grand Prix driver Hitech on Lap 4 moved Lawson to the side at Turn 8 before claiming the inside of Turn 9 to seal the move.

He quickly closed the two-second gap to race leader Daruvala and after a safety car period, pulled off a similar overtake on the PREMA Racing driver to take first place. From then on, he was quiet for the win.
Daruvala retained second place after a tough battle with Armstrong. The latter attempted an overtake on lap 19 in the chicane but forced the Indian driver off the circuit and compromised in the process. He fell to ninth at the checkered flag which became 14th following a post-race penalty for the incident.

Likewise, third place on the road Theo Pourchaire received a post-race time penalty for forcing Armstrong off the circuit later on the same lap. He knocked the home favorite off the podium and into seventh place after the penalty was applied.
Post-race business promoted Drugovich to the podium, extending his advantage in the Drivers’ Championship over Pourchaire and Logan Sargeant. The American found himself P8 when all was said and done.
Drugovich’s advantage in the standings is now 42 points over Sargeant. Pourchaire’s demotion leaves him still two points behind the Carlin driver and third in the standings.
Carlin leads the standings, seven points ahead of MP Motorsport, while ART Grand Prix is six points ahead.
