Donnie and Mark Wahlberg confirm the death of their mother, Alma, at 78
BOSTON – Alma Wahlberg, the matriarch of the Wahlberg family, has died, according to her sons Donnie and Mark.
Alma Wahlberg, 78, was a mother of nine and originally from Boston. She starred in the reality TV series “Wahlburgers” with her sons Donnie, Mark and Paul, the chef Hingham behind the Wahlburgers restaurant chain. She is the inspiration and namesake of the famous Hingham Alma Nove restaurant run by Paul Wahlberg.
Donnie Wahlberg confirmed his mother’s death in an Instagram post, while Mark Wahlberg took to Twitter to share the news.
“I am so lucky to have been brought to this world by, raised by, taught and put on my life’s path by such an amazing woman,” wrote Donnie Wahlberg. “My mother Alma’s joy for life, love and people – combined with the pride of her humble beginnings and the refusal to forget where she came from – has undoubtedly shaped me into the man I I am.
“It’s time to rest peacefully, Mom,” he added. “I love you, I miss you, thank you and I will celebrate you, today and always. Forever – your baby Donnie.”
“My angel, rest in peace,” wrote Mark Wahlberg, posting a photo of his mother.
Alma Wahlberg became a fan favorite and a household name when “Wahlburgers” premiered on A&E in 2014. The show was less about the burgers and more about the brothers.
They bickered, joked and vied for Mum’s attention. Eventually, they hugged and made up in half-baked, made-for-TV moments. People loved the playful pranks and nostalgic memories of the family’s humble beginnings in Dorchester, where dinner was always served at 5 a.m. sharp.

In an interview in 2018, Alma Wahlberg shared more of her story than fans had ever seen.
“People know me as the mother of famous children, and while this fact has brought many gifts in my life and given me opportunities that might never have been possible otherwise, there is much more. in my story than most people know, “she said on a WCVB 2018 prime-time special as part of Maria Stephanos'” Someone You Should Know “series.
“I have lived with alcoholism and abuse; I fought against poverty and knew great wealth; I have lost so many people that I have loved; I had a hard time raising nine children, and I love them more than anything else; watch them suffer, learn and come out on the other side; I lost myself; I found myself again and again; and I kept moving forward no matter what. “
Last year, Donnie Wahlberg shared a post online about his mother’s deteriorating health.
“I know many of you have asked how my mother Alma was doing. When I visited she didn’t remember much, and was often confused, but somehow she was still Alma. It always lights up a room. smile at me, “he wrote in 2020.” She is still stubborn. And she still loves her baby Donnie. Thank you all for your good wishes. “
Alma Wahlberg’s nine children also included actor Robert Wahlberg, who has appeared in films such as “Mystic River” and “The Departed”.
