Are you hesitating about jeans trends? Here’s your 2022 guide to wearing the latest trends | Entertainment
For most of the last decade, and certainly for what seems longer than that, the dominant trend in denim fashion was to make jeans as skinny and fitted as possible. But lately, a whole host of different styles have made their debut, reinvigorating the denim realm with a variety of fun and stylish looks that we can’t wait to tell you about. Two big themes emerging this year are comfort and the “anything goes” mentality. (Anything but skinny jeans, that is. We’ll share some tips on how to move away from your beloved jeggings later.) But for now, let’s dive into the top trends in 2022 jeans and how to style them.
Hidden under a loose, high-waisted denim cape, moms have understood the practical benefits of this cozy style for decades. Slip on some mom jeans and everything from your mood to your maneuverability will improve. It’s no wonder this loose silhouette has made its return to the catwalk. Whether you’re trying this look for the first time or taking your first steps, we’ve got some tips to help you embrace mom jeans in the modern age.
According to our resident Gen-Z-er Lexie Witgenstein, mom jeans look best when paired with a crop top or fitted shirt. You can even wear your mom jeans with a graphic tee for an ultra-casual yet on-trend vibe. Lexie recommends finishing this look with a chunky sneaker, like an A1, or a Doc Marten boot for a definite edge.
Chances are you will fall in love with this look. Because let’s be honest… moms are always right!
Point: Slipping shirts into mom jeans enhances the look.
Straight cut jeans
You really can’t go wrong with straight leg jeans for 2022. This look is trending in a whole host of colors including browns, greens, pinks and all denim washes from light to dark. You may also notice that the patchwork look is gaining momentum this year, especially in the straight leg design. Wondering how to style this look? The younger generation of trend setters wear straight leg jeans very casually with an untucked oversized t-shirt. If you prefer a more polished look, you can always dress down by pairing dark wash denim pants with a tucked-in denim button-up shirt. Almost anything goes this year and the 90s denim-on-denim look is no exception.
Point: Dress your right leg with a heel, especially one with an ankle strap.
Flare & Bell Bottom Jeans
If you’ve got a ’70s soul, you’ll love the revival of flared and flared pants this season. The dramatic silhouette of this style of jeans begs to be the center of attention and there are a few tricks you can use to achieve this. First, tuck in your shirt so that the full length of your jeans is visible. Next, add a belt. This will enhance the hourglass shape you already started creating by tucking in your favorite shirt. Finally, give yourself a boost with a pair of platform shoes. There’s a reason everyone sported this classic jumpsuit in the 70s; the lift you get from a platform keeps your pants from dragging on the floor, which elongates your figure and allows your rocket to flow without bunching.
Point: Your jeans should float just above the ground, covering at least ¾ of your shoe.
Say goodbye to skinny jeans?
If you’re over 30, you’ll want to sit down: According to fashion forecasters and Gen-Zers, the skinny jean trend that dominated the fashion industry for years is officially dead. Those born between 1997 and 2012 are looking for ways to stand out and one of those ways is through fashion. As the younger generation of influencers, this group hasn’t had as much time to latch onto a particular style. But closing the decade-long chapter on skinny jeans isn’t so easy for all of us. I’ve built an entire wardrobe around my favorite dark blue skinny jeans and I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye without a fight. After researching the industry, I discovered that there is a way to pull off skinny jeans this year without creating a fashion faux pas. Here’s how to pull off the look if you still love wearing your skinnies:
- Go for fitted rigid denim instead of stretchy jeggings
- Choose lightly washed, distressed or black denim; avoid the basic dark blue.
- Pair your skinny jeans with a light, flowing blouse
Point: Chunky shoes of all kinds look great with skinny jeans.

Here are some tips for a successful shopping spree.
- Do you always buy clothes that look alike? Imagine styling someone else’s hair on your next shopping spree. This technique will help you choose different colors and patterns.
- Ask a friend for feedback – we are our own worst critics!
- The shirt you wear in the store may not match the jeans you try on. Grab a matching shirt to help you really picture the look so you don’t mistakenly say no to a nice pair of pants.
- If you love a style but think it’s “too wild” for you, it could be perfect! Give yourself some time to adjust to your new look before you rule it out.
