5 ways French women like to wear a black dress
I’m a big advocate of the capsule wardrobe – a wardrobe full of handpicked items that, to borrow from Marie Kondo, only give me joy when I wear them. Mindful shopping is something that I’ve also embraced in the eight and a half years since arriving in Paris, and it’s also something I’m writing about in my new book, Practice the Parisienne: the secrets of life in the City of Light, Which one is out now.
I discovered that Parisians have a gift for choosing pieces forever, are less likely to shop in fast fashion, and have a penchant for vintage and pre-loved clothes that they mix with more current styles. They certainly inspired my own style which is a lot less fierce than before, and I now invest in pieces that last: uplifted basics that I can wear over and over again, like a black blazer, super jeans, a trench coat, a shirt or a nightie dress.
At first glance, you might think that a skinny, bodycon babydoll dress should only be worn for elegant evenings, but its simple silhouette means that it can actually be styled in multiple ways for different occasions, which makes it look great. one of the easiest to wear. and versatile pieces you may own. It can easily be dressy or casual and worn with everything, whatever the weather or your mood. Scroll down to see how I styled a five ways.
